“MAKE GREEN LINK YOUR BEE SCORECARD COMPLIANT PARTNER”
Introduction
Green Link is a Non-Profit Organisation (Reg Nr 2016/081105/08) providing an enabling environment for Job Creation (SDG 8) within the Circular Economy (SDG 12). Services provided include recruiting suitable candidates (focussed on women), providing basic training to become participants in the Waste Recycling environment as well as training on using the Green Link App. The Green Link business model ensures Sustainable Green Jobs while also contributing to the Circular Economy, aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).
How can Green Link assist Corporates with meeting their BEE Scorecard targets?
The 5 elements of generic BEE Scorecards are Ownership, Management, Skills Development, Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) and Socio-Economic Development (SED). The role of Green Link is to concentrate on a sub section within ESD, namely Enterprise Development, as well as Socio-Economic Development.
A Corporate can take full advantage of the ESD and SED BEE Scorecard points without the hassle of getting involved in the process and the expectations and commitment to develop suppliers. The Green Link model is generic for all industry sectors as it creates sustainable black owned jobs/enterprises. Contributions towards Green Link can also be claimed under the Socio-Economic Development sub section as the Green Link initiative directly facilitates income generating activities for targeted beneficiaries.
The Green Link process involves the following:
Ø
Recruit suitable candidates (women focussed)
unless Corporate have their own choice of candidates.
Ø
Provide basic training on the waste recycling value
chain. In some instances it could be aligned to the relevant Local Government’s
waste management programs.
Ø
Connect candidates with role players in their
specific regions.
Ø
Provide training on the digital platform (Mobile
App).
Ø
Provide comprehensive feedback on the progress
of candidates (data gathered from the digital platform) for one year. The
importance of the feedback is to reflect that a Corporate derives business
benefits while actually making a real IMPACT in society.
Should a Corporate wish to showcase their contributions regarding Job Creation and the Circular Economy, an additional service is available (through a 3rd party).
Initial Launch Programme
Overview
The aim is to initially identify and train 8 people to launch the Green Link initiative.
Ø Recruitment of candidates will be done by approaching faith-based organisations within the Mogale area to identify suitable candidates who are currently unemployed and who wish to become economically active.
Ø The initial training programme has already been compiled and a training partner will be appointed soon.
Ø A suitable venue for training is currently being negotiated with an existing NPO in Mogale
Concurrent actions needed are:
Ø
Approaching businesses/households within Mogale who are interested to register the waste they generate on the Green Link mobile platform for collections by the candidates (as mentioned above).
Ø
Identifying waste recycler in the Mogale area who are willing to purchase the waste collected by the candidates.
Ø Actively seek funding from businesses and/or donors to kick start the Green Link initiative. The estimated funding requirement for the initial 8 candidates are estimated at R320k (R40k per candidate). Refer to the various funding benefits and options (as per www.localligreenlink.co.za)
Creating traction for a sustainable future for Green Link:
Ø
The above actions will most certainly reveal many challenges faced and continuous tweaks will be needed to refine the operating model.
Ø
Proactive collaboration will be key among the various role players. The digital mobile app will be enhanced to enable effective and easy collaboration.
Ø Continuous and proper feedback on progress should create ongoing awareness, which should ultimately ensure the sustainability of the Green Link initiative
The Green Link initiative supports both JOB CREATION (SDB 8) as well as promoting the CIRCULAR ECONOMY (SDG 12)
